We've been busy crafters!

Gosh we’ve had a couple of busy weeks here at HMD HQ! We held our tea cosy workshop a couple of weeks ago accompanied by chocolate brownies!! The ladies chose to use chunky yarn to make their cosies so they worked up really quickly. As there are lots of styles of teapot our workshop covered how to tweak the cosy pattern to fit your individual teapot. One of our ladies made a cosy for an unusual shaped metal teapot. We helped her to add a frill to the bottom and add some cute buttons to make it easy to put on and take off. Another of our ladies, Helen, really impressed with how she'd finished it off a cute rose and ribbon.

On Sunday 24th November we were joined by 7 lovely ladies for our full day of Christmas Crafting which we held at The Fairway. We had our own room for the day which meant we could be as loud and giggly as we wanted without disturbing any other guests!! A big thank you to the team at the hotel for looking after us so well. The tea, coffee and biscuits were plentiful throughout the day and the buffet lunch was delicious and there was more than enough food to keep our energy levels up.

We started the day with some crocheting. We had a selection of patterns for our guests to choose from but they all chose to try their hand at making crocheted Christmas stockings. A couple of the ladies were very new to crochet but managed to complete their stocking. Our afternoon activity was to make a rag tie wreath and everyone was thrilled with the finished wreaths. We’re sure they’ll all look amazing when they are put up with all the other Christmas decorations in their houses.

Last week we ran our first knitting workshop and the project we covered was a cable knit beanie that would be suitable for a man or a woman. The ladies who came were both experienced knitters but had either never done cable before or it had been some time since they had tried it. By the end of the session they were well on their way to mastering the cable pattern and both have since finished their hats and been back to Busy Fingers for some more yarn to make a second one. We have already scheduled a repeat of this workshop for Monday 20th January – please book your place if you’d like to join us.

Yesterday we ran our last workshop of the year. We spent the evening making crocheted Christmas stockings again. They are a quick make but can be personalised in many different ways so are great fun to make. The pattern we use is also a great introduction to the amigurumi style of crochet that we will be covering in more detail in a workshop we are planning for next year.

We’re starting to finalise our workshops and events for next year so please make sure you’re signed up to our mailing list to make sure you don’t miss any announcements. We’ll be running some evening and afternoon workshops in the New Year and hope to be able to announce details of our next full-day event shortly. We’re also really excited about having a stall at Spring into Wool at Leeds Grammar School on Sunday 19th April.

We hope to see some of you there!
