Our First Workshop

We held our first Tuesday evening crochet workshop at Busy Fingers this week and had four lovely ladies join us to learn how to make a lacy scarf. Two of the ladies were relative beginners, one lady hadn't crocheted for a few years and the other had never crocheted before but was very keen to learn.

The three patterns we had chosen to use for the workshop create very different textures but as each of them just involved a combination of treble and chain stitches they were all achievable for even the most inexperienced hooker. We had a selection of King Cole Curiosity and James C Brett Northern Lights for our ladies to choose from and the magic of using a yarn cake such as these is that by using even the most simple stitch pattern the finished item is stunning.

The workshop lasted for 2 and a half hours and quickly passed in a mixture of quiet concentration and riotous laughter. And, of course, there had to be home-baked goodies to keep our energy levels up!

We were all having such a good time that we forgot to take many photos but here are a couple to show you what a couple of our ladies achieved.

Tara had taught herself to crochet using YouTube and was our star pupil. She chose to work her scarf using the paddle stitch and hooked her way through her first colour change.

Marie had never crocheted before but was really eager to learn. We taught her the basics of the treble stitch using some spare yarn and by the end of the evening, she had completed the first two rows of her scarf using a staggered treble pattern. Well done Marie and can we add a massive thank you for leaving such a lovely review for us too. It made us do a happy dance when we read it!

Our next Tuesday evening workshop will be on the 19th November and we will be learning how to make a simple ribbed tea cosy. Again, this will be a project that even a beginner can achieve as it will be using double crochet and chain stitches. There are a couple of places left if you want to join in the fun. The price of the workshop includes all yarn, tuition and refreshments.

We also have a full day of Christmas Crafting on Sunday 24th November. Tickets for this event are also currently reduced to just £50 if you simply enter code XMAS20 when you book your place.

We hope to see you soon!
